hi guys, i am new in the forum.
I want to find out if there is someone that can help me with an issue i have with my computer, recently it is turning off by itself, i been told it is a virus, and i have formated several times but it still keeps doing it, i also heard about a "total format program" this software is supossed to erase everything there is in the pc, however i looked for it in the web with no succsess, if there is someone who knows about a link where if can download this program or someone who has a solution for my problem i will really appreciate all the help i can receive.
thanks
It sounds like a faulty PSU, although stop to check that the power button isn't sticking in the case first, a fault on the board could force a shutdown as well, (such as a short, or failing power management component)
a format is a format, it's unlikely a virus would survive it,
don't use windows XP service pack 1, or lower it has a vulnerability that will produce a shutdown problem.
I dont know if youre really from Mexico or if its extra hot there recently, but it could also be auto shutdown in your bios from temperature. It gets my pc most summers and i have to clean out the fans etc to keep the pc cooler, had no idea why my pc was restarting and took a while to click that it was set to power off if it got too hot.
Also...
start->run->"control"
System
Advanced Tab
Startup and Recovery ->settings
Under System Failure, turn off automatically restart.
Then if its a windows failure you should get some kind of bluescreen message, which you should copy down to help identify the problem.
Aslo..
start->run->eventvwr.msc
Look in the event log for an error being reported at the time of shutdown.
Checking temps is pretty elementary stuff, that every pc user should check before seeking assistance, boards and chips can reach quite high temperatures before becoming damaged,
and if they ever reach that temperature at all, then the pc hasn't been built with the correct level of cooling, my pc's are built with full atx cases, with 3 fans, and aftermarket coolers,
newer motherboards have support for thermal management, with safe powerdown
to protect components
collected internal dust is still an issue, so it's a good idea to get your pc serviced at least once a year, if the pc gets used for more than 4 hours a day, every day of the year,
you'd also have to replace the fans every 3 years.
Hi there this could be for a number of reasons the main 1 being overheating. What system are you running and with which OS. Check your fans are dust free and that the case vents aren't covered. It may also be worth checking the heatsink paste and replacing it with a good quality brand which you can buy quite cheaply. Also if you are competant it may be worth checking the BIOS setting for your CPU and making sure that it isn't set too low. Let us know how you get on!
