In terms of features, its got all the same kinda tabbed browsing etc from IE/FF versions etc. Its very fast rendering, appears to be very lightweight. Usually i dont like alternate browsers from a point of view of more people pulling web programming standards in different directions, but the interface on Chrome is really really nice.
You can drag the tabs around, or out into new windows, you can drag links onto the bookmark bar and when you open a new tab it has a little gallery of all your most commonly used sites, which really is pretty cool. That and its very minimalist and intuitive, the status bar only shows when youd want it to (when you hover over links or a page is loading) and the same with the search/find interface.
Also its highlighting all my (deliberately non existent) punctuation and grammar and spelling errors while making this post, which is pretty sweet for those people who struggle with spelling etc. Then its got no history browsing mode for people who want to look at watermelon porn without their other half finding out etc
It's really fast.
The incognito thing is a total pain in the arse, I like Firefox because I have it set to delete all my history any time I close it down, but with this I have to open it up, open a new 'incognito' window, blah.
Add-ons would be nice but I'm sure they will arrive in due course, an Ad-Blocker would be especially welcome.
But it seems to be really streamlined, on my computer it is noticeably a lot faster than Firefox or Safari. Compared to IE there is no comparison.
For a beta it is very impressive.
However its had a few little problems ive noticed, from flash embedded stuff not working all the time, to the way it seems to disguise the rendering and show you the finished product if you know what i mean.
Other gripe is that while its a nice idea to have every tab run in its own process so that they cant bring eachother down, without some kind of custome process explorer type app, its a bit self defeating. The people who benefit from it are those of us who have literally 10-20 websites open at a time, preferring to leave them open than to reload them 1 by 1 numerous times each day, what that means is that we have 20 processes in task manager listed as Chrome that are in no way identifiable as which tab they are or whatever. Its not so much a problem, but id rather they just formed it as a well structured multi threaded program than 20 different processes, even if its less reliable. For the once or twice a year your browser actually crashes and totally dies, its a bit of an excessive solution to an ultimately geeky problem.
tried Chrome last night at home and using Internet Explorer 8 beta 2 at work
would definatly choose chrome over IE at the moment but still i think firefox have upper hand
when these products finish beta verion i think firefox are going to have to think of something good to pull out
with firefox and IE i used to get random problems loading google maps and zooming in on areas..... used the chrome for a fair while on the maps planning a new journey and it all went without a hitch
it does load alot faster but i did not use it enough to know if does not load plugins at the moment
I quite like it, it looks simple and clean, i like the commonly used websites when you open a new tab but i hate not having a drop down menu of the list of sites you've typed in, im having to close a tab and open a new one to do that...but i agree so far i think firefox is a little better.
What is the security meant to be like with chrome? is firefox still supposedly the best?
I found a way to block ads with Privoxy, just google it, it works pretty well.
I also had to install Java on Chrome but other than that, no problems so far.
My Chrome and Firefox both just shat the bed, but IE is working fine.
I wasn't looking at pr0n, all I did recently was install the Football Manager 09 demo. Although I did the Steam one then uninstalled Steam and installed the direct download one.
My advice would be don't do that.
