Just in time for the E3 gaming expo this week, Microsoft has gone and done it: a 60GB Xbox 360 has been let out of the bag. It's not exactly shocking, considering we've been expecting a higher capacity gaming console from the bods in Redmond since earlier in the year, although keeping the same price-point, of $349 in the US, is an added touch of genius.
"We know consumers need more and more space to store the amazing digital content Xbox 360 offers, and we're giving it to them at no extra charge," Albert Penello, the Xbox Director of Product Management over at Microsoft claimed.
This generous offer, whilst bound to infuriate those who already own the lower-spec console, is in tune with Microsoft's attitude towards downloads and software. Since the HD format HD-DVD lost the format war earlier in the year to Blu-ray, Microsoft has made a concerted push for digital downloads, and increasing the storage capacity on their best-selling hardware product is a no-brainer for increasing their sales of movies and TV shows.
So far, Microsoft hasn't confirmed this will be a worldwide launch, only announcing the 60GB console in the US, however if - or more likely, when - they debut it in the UK, we should see it priced at £199.99
