The Virtual Universe
The Entropia Universe is truly a virtual universe. This means that you can do many of the things you would do in real life, as well as many other futuristic activities, within the Entropia Universe. Newly arrived colonists can choose from a range of activities including hunting, mining, manufacturing, tailoring and more.
The universe is yours to enjoy as entertainment and a place to meet new friends. Tame the wild animals of Calypso, or take a Space Shuttle to a nearby Asteroid where you can dance the night away in the worlds first Virtual Night Club - Club NeverDie.
The depth of the virtual universe also allows the clever to make a living or run a virtual business. Many opportunities exist to open shops, trade resources and test your entreprenurial spirit by investing in equipment, knowledge and skills to compete with others.
Why not buy an appartment, or even a stately home, and furnish it with a variety of furniture and decorative items available in the trading outposts and participant owned shops dotted all over Calypso. These are just a few of the many features available inside the Entropia Universe - a truly Virtual Universe.
Real Cash Economy
The Real Cash Economy (RCE) in the Entropia Universe means that the virtual items inside the universe have a real value.
In order to develop your character in the Entropia Universe it is necessary to invest in your character. You may wish to purchase tools, weapons, real estate or a range of other items. These items cost PED (the Entropia Universe currency).
Real world currencies may be transferred into your secure Entropia Universe account where they are then exchanged into PED. The PED currency is directly connected to the real world economy through a fixed exchange rate with the US dollar, where 10 PED = 1US$. So if you deposit 10 US dollars, you will have 100 PED availabel to use In-World. For a full list of deposit options, please read the Deposit section.
Particpants often accumlate PED through the sale of manufactured items and by offering services to others and may at any time withdraw their accumulated PED back into real world currencies according to the exchange rate mentioned above. Build a New Life
Through the unique features available in the Entropia Universe, a particpant can build a whole new life. Without mentioning the fact of buying a virtual property on an alien world, the range of professions available to colonists on Calypso literally allow a particpant to live a completely different life than the one they live in the real world.
The Entropia Universe utilizes a unique Skills & Experience system allowing almost limitless proficiency in a multitude of skills from hunting, to science and organisational skills.
In fact, the range of skills is so vast that it's practically impossible to become proficient in every single skill. This factor makes for a diverse population within the Entropia Universe, with specialists making professions out of their specific skill areas.
Forming Societies is an important element of the Entropia Universe. Societies allow groups of colonists to band together and utilize their diverse skills for the common good of the group.
Investing in Yourself
Once you enter the Entropia Universe there are countless opportunities available to invest in your avatar.
Due to the numerous skills available, participants specialize in specific skill areas and then use those skills to make a living on Calypso. Why not become a proficient miner and sell the resources you mine from Calypsos soil to manufacturers, who in turn mould the resources into everything from advanced weaponry to clothing and furniture, which are then sold to other colonists.
With all items in the Entropia Universe having real value, almost everything you do on Calypso can be considered an investment in yourself. The Entropia Universe entered the Guinness World Book of Records in 2004 for the most expensive virtual item ever sold.
Community
The Entropia Universe Community is an unrivalled community due to the unique nature of the product itself.
With participants from all over the globe, the online community has grown to over 500 000 participants from over 220 countries on Earth. The uniqely tight knit community has produced several real world marriages and a multitude of new cross border friendships.
A mentor/disciple system allows newcomers on Calypso to quickly orientate themselves with the sometimes complex goings-on inside the Entropia Universe. A multitude of colonist societies also strenghten the Entropia Universe Community.
