I installed this update and noted that it really does not do too much on the surface (at least not yet).
The menues have changesd a little, you start in a new place on the XMB, The icons and font are a little bigger, there is a new sparkly thing on the main menu, SD video can be upscaled to HD on an HD tv (its in video settings).
The most usefull thing is the ability to output audio via HDMI and the standard output – no more choping and cghanging for me.
Interestingly there is a new IPlayer section in the TV option, it worked for about half a day, its seems to be very buggy, but it’s a web page and I am sure the BBC will sort it out quickley fingers crossed.
Play TV did not recive an uupdate and the browser is still very poor so there is a lot of work to do and reporte on the web indicate that this is the last update this year! That’s a crying shame.
The dynamic ‘animated’ menus are also to be charged for by the micro payment process, although some clever spods have identified a PS3 Africa theme for free on the Japan site
All in all it was a good update but not the greatest, at least not yet.
