PS3 Slim coming to a Games Com near you??

i was suprised not to find a thread about this already, though it seems the console sectinos are very quiet.

anyone else been keeping track of all of the PS3 slim rumours over the last couple of months? I suppose i'd better go find all the images and stuff and link them in.

Talk is of a new SKU to be announced on Aug 18th at Games Com and on sale from September. The Slim will be possible because of the advances in the Cell and RSX fabrication process which has allowed the Cell to go froma 90nm process to a 45nm process. The smaller process means less power is needed, which means less heat generated, a smaller power supply and a smaller heatsink.

also launch PS3s were fitted with a 5'25" blu ray drive which have now been slimmed down enough to fit into laptops.

Sony have reportedly cut the manufacturing costs of the PS3 by around 70% which from the original $800 a unit price brings it down to $240 (PS3 currently sells in the US for $399)

Well with the E3 expo only a few short weeks away, the net has been on fire with rumours and predictions. Rumours have been zooming back and forth like babies on hot coals, one such rumour being the re-design of the Playstation 3.

Earlier this week Levelup Chinaposted an article up with some rough looking images supposedly showing a re-designed PS3, and PS3 packaging. This was very quickly taken down and the images removed, but not before a whole bunch of people had grabbed the images and the article that went with it. Soon the Internet was infested with these Slimline PS3 rumours with pretty much every game site reporting on them, some just putting down predictions, some believing Sony was trying to cover it up and that the pics could indeed be real.

So one Games site decided to stop beating around the bush and decided to ask Sony UK directly about the rumoured re-design, CVG (Computer and Video Games) was told by Sony UK that “We currently don’t have any plans for a redesigned PS3″, and that “We don’t know anything about the system in the photos.”.

So there we have it folks, there is no PS3 Slim on it’s way, which makes sense. Sony has just reported its first loss in 14 years in tune to a net loss of $1 billion for its fiscal year, so it wouldn’t make sense for them to spend a whole heap of cash on a re-design of something that works perfectly well already, as the old saying goes “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it!”.

This all said and done, it is reported that there are 2 hardware re-designs to be announced at E3 by Sony, one is believed to be the new PSP and the other is now open to debate, could this possibly be the new motion sensing controller we have reported here? Or seeing as that isn’t really a “re-design”, could there be something else on its way? Let us know what you think this might be!

But then I ran a search again and found this.... so your guess is as good as any ones. Im not up on the ps3 tbh maybe when harv comes back of his jollies he could spread some light on it

PS3 SlimJust hours after news of Sony’s impending plans to send the 80GB PS3 to the gadget graveyard sent PS3 Slim rumours into overdrive, more gossip about the slimline hub has leaked out. This time, a French site has touted a release date for the PS3 Slim, as the Big S ramps up production. Want to know when you can get one? Keep reading.

The PS3 Slim is the hottest rumour in gaming right now. And French site RTL reckons it’s coming as soon as this month. It says Sony will announce the PS3 Slim and its Gamescom press conference in Cologne on 18 August. That’s just 9 days after the 80GB PS3 stops selling in Japan.

The news comes as other reports suggest Sony has got Far East factories churning out more PS3 parts than ever before. The industrial barrage has seen PS3 components double in the past three months, as the PS3 Slim finally homes into view.
