Console and Console Gaming DiscussionIf you have something on your mind regarding the many consoles available, hand held devices or any the great games available for them, then you should use this section to chat about them.
Zelda doesn't appeal to me (of which the GC controller version is meant to be better) and neither does Mario Galaxy.
I see the Wii as a complete farce and a rip off tbh.
This is totally my personal opinion though but Xbox has Dead Space, Fallout 3 and Fable 2 coming out in the next 2 weeks, all three of those games destroy whats out on Wii atm
The Xbox is obviously better but the Wii is fun for a while although it's a bit crap when you get over the initial novelty value. Not really a rip-off though because it's cheap. If anything the Xbox is the rip-off because you can get all the games for free on PC. I have had both of them and sold them for those reasons.
As your only console youd be better off buying one with a regular controller and a big list of game titles. As something to entertain the kids for a while its fine, or a bit of a laugh when people are over, but its never going to square up for the hardcore gamer and i dont think it was ever supposed to. Equally a lot of xbox/ps3 titles arent appropriate for young children - in terms of difficulty, levels of absorbtion as well as the obvious violent themes/content.
I was always sad the dreamcast died, it had so many fun arcade games, but it didnt succeed because it dared to step outside the limitations of a grey and brown palette and serious themes.
PS. I thought this thread was going to be complaining about people saying "not being funny but..", which irritates the hell out of me btw, mostly because its hard to avoid picking it up myself.
The wii is a great little console for parties and the kids, but for all "proper" games Harv uses his pc or his ps3. Tempted to buy a cheap Xbox this year for the eldest son, (well Harv really but trying to justify it to myself) to see how they differ.
The Wii is the perfect console for it's intended market, Nintendo have stuck by their sales model perfectly and people who would enjoy a Wii are the people who own a Wii.
I think i'd be pretty safe in saying that they most certainly didn't market the Wii at the type of person who's gaming desires is that of wanting to play games such as Dead Space, the Wii isn't designed for that type of game.
It's nothing at all to do with better or worse, the XBox 360 is aimed at a different market to the Wii and so a different style of game is designed for the Wii to the XBox.
If your into XBox, go enjoy your XBox, if your into Wii go enjoy your Wii, simple. If you enjoy both, great, take a medal and pin it proudly to your chest.
Forget the whole comparison idea for what the Nintendo Wii is it's a complete fad imo it's the new Ipod which alot of morons who don't even play games see it as a must have object but when the dust settles it's nothing more than an out dated fad.
And just because it's cheaper than the others (xbox without hd is actually cheaper) doesn't mean it's value for money or that it's not a rip off.

I think we'll let this response and what it stands for speak for itself.
I like the Wii, gets the family off their arse and playing together, rather than have one person on a console taking over the tv with it and being an ignoramus for a good 10 hours, at least with the Wii that kinda goes out the window.
I’m with Det on this 1, I like the wii for what it is... trying to compare it to the xbox or ps3 is missing the point. My mum & dad couldn’t play computer games to save their lives, but both have enjoyed playing on the wii because most of the games are made with them in mind. Playing Monkey Ball on it is a riot if there’s 3 or 4 playing, even more so if 1 or more are non gamers.
I think it will go on for quite a while because it’s a console for non gamers. Proper gamers should go out & buy something else (or as well as a wii). Right now imho a ps3 is the only logical gamer’s consol, or buy a fast PC & game on that.
Agree with osborne (!!!!), I stick by what I thought when it came out, it's a gimmick. Played Zelda on both consoles and played it on GC instead, 'cause I don't want to faff around with a 'wiimote' playing a game.
Think the xbox is shit also, the best games for it are on PC which plays them better.
Would like a PS3 but can't justify buying one until Resi 5 comes out.

I agree with it being a gimmick, but it never claimed to be a gaming system.

How much does it cost to buy a pc that plays the games as well though? Not to mention that you dont need to upgrade an Xbox to play all the titles that come out on it, to keep a PC running latest games is an expensive investment.
Well with me I already had a decent comp so it didn't cost anything more.
You don't need to upgrade an xbox, but you can turn that around and say that you can't upgrade one...so you're stuck with developers getting the most out of the hardware. With a computer you can stick with the same gfx card for the same performance or upgrade to get cutting edge performance. I also prefer a keyboard and mouse for any game that isn't driving or RPG.
That's just me though, I have turned into an elitist pc gaming fag over the past few years.
