xbox 360 wireless connection

not been on here for ages, but need to ask for your expertise!

can you use any wireless dongle to connect and xbox 360 to the net, or does it have to be the official expensive 1! and if it can be any dongle, how do you do it, do you have any links or anything to tell me how?

i could be wrong but im almost certain that you need the Microsoft product.

Ethernet cables are a lot cheaper. And faster. And more reliable.

i know, but the problem is the xbox is upstairs in the kids bedroom and the router downstairs in the living room. thats opposite ends of the house.

It doesnt cost a lot for a 25feet cable these days I think we paid about £12 for one of ours, the other long one came free of charge from a certain cuddly huggely admin

i know, but its not the cost, its the running of it through the house. its literally back of the house to the front, as well as having to come down the stairs. thats why i was looking at wireless. looks like the kids are going to have to start saving up for the xbox wifi dongle. ill break the bad news to them when they get up lol!

I think its good that your gonna get the kids to save up for it. Sooo many parents would have just gone out and got it for them. It would also make a good bribery tool for you till the time comes to buy it

. they are pretty good at saving so it wont take them ltoo long to get the wifi dongle, i just thought i could use my spare 1 if you didnt have to have the microsoft 1.

if its just to connect to a wireless router from an ethernet port on your xbox then there are probably many devices wich would allow you todo this.

so you basiacly just have a wirless ethernet from one box to another wich looks just like a normal ethernet line at each end.

Nah, it's a con because the Xbox doesn't actually come with the code to run wireless, that comes with the dingle dongle. You could trust some eBayster from hong kong for a driver CD, or just get the actual thingle thongle.
Or a drill and a cable

I have the exact same problem at my home.

I just simply got a signal booster for my router and yes, I use microsofts wireless adapter.

I had the same problem. What i did was buy 2 belkins routers because it said they could act like wireless access points. So basically i could set them up to connect to each other through wireless bridging. With this set up all i had to do was have one router where the 360 was and the other where my internet connection was and i was set. It is also a good way to get wifi thoughout the house. I got lucky and found some on sale. I bet there are some cheap routers out there that will act like wireless access points and bridge together.

why do wireless now when you can do ethernet from any 2 power outlets in your home?

If you dont want to buy a microsoft dongle just buy 2 power adapters and send your network over your power system.

will dig out a link to the devices - BT use them for bt vision.

you can get em cheaper as BT are giving em away with their products but thisw is the guy im on about
