The back story:
The Virtual Console is an online service that allows players to purchase and download games and other software for the Wii gaming console. The Virtual Console lineup consists of titles originally released on now defunct past consoles. These titles are run in their original forms through software emulation. The library of past games currently consists of titles originating from the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, as well as Sega's Mega Drive/Genesis, NEC's TurboGrafx-16 and TurboGrafx-CD, and SNK's Neo Geo.

Internet Channel
Announced channels to hit Wii:
Mii Contest Channel will allow players to share their Miis and enter them in to popularity contests. Announced to hit US Wiis 11 November 2007.
Wii Fit Channel, where users of the game can compare their results and progress on a new channel on the Wii Menu. A high tech Weight Watcher's channel.
Everybody's Nintendo Channel allows Wii users to download various demos and game trailers. It will work similar in concept to DS Download Stations. A search feature will assist in finding new games for the user to try. This channel is due to be released in Japan in November 2007.

According to the tranlsation of a German website, Nintendo not only is making demos, but will allow Direct-to-SD and HDD support. Big news.
New Wii Shop Channel Feature:
Gift feature:
The new Wii Shop feature will allow users to purchase a game (a Virtual Console game, for example) to send as a gift to another Wii owner. The recipient will then be notified of the gift and, once they accept, their Wii will automatically log into the Wii Shop to download the selected game.
