A 64 year-old paedophile described by police as the "most prolific Internet groomer ever caught" has been jailed for five years.
Former postal worker, Douglas Lindsell, was sentenced yesterday at Kingston Crown Court after pleading guilty to attempting to abduct a young girl.
Lindsell, from Twickenham, gained the trust of his victims by pretending to be a teenage boy. Police said that Lindsell had "overtly sexual" contact with more than 70 girls from the UK and overseas.
Police used the sentence to warn parents of the dangers of chatrooms and the potential threats caused by unmonitored use of the Net.
Children's charity NSPCC described the case as the "worst and most frightening case of Internet grooming" known so far".
Said NSPCC Internet safety expert Chris Atkinson: "It clearly shows the extraordinary lengths that sex abusers will go to target and lure children for their own sexual gratification, and highlights the dangers of internet chatrooms. It also shows that the recent decision by MSN to close its chatrooms in a bid to protect children from people like this was correct.
"This sentence shows these crimes are unacceptable and will be severely punished, and makes plain that there is no hiding place on the Internet for sex abusers."
thank god for web cams, they actaully help remove some of this risk. not all of it by a long shot, but at least you know its not some 65 year old man when its sposed to be a 17 year old sweed with blonde hair big tits and blue eyes!
Sick, it really is...i was watching this sex abuse thing in romania, where kids theres a whole coumunity of kids being ''pimped'' out, waiting at bus stops etc too be picked up by peodophiles for money, the iternet still gets the blame for alot of it but from what i saw in that program 2/3's of it is still on the streets instead of virtually, it's just in england it's not as easy too do that kind of thing on the streets so maybe in the uk it is mostly the net..
Over the iternet the kids still ask there parents alot of the time and convince them too allow them too go and meet ''this really nice guy i met over the iternet, we've been talking for months now, he's shown me a picture'' thats what allows the pedos too get away it, convicing the children and that convinces the parents theres nothing wrong,
i think the media is puting out the wrong message, the message isn't ''don't let your children on the net un-supervised'' or ''put filters on your pc'', it's make your child understand the danger and make bloody sure that atleast the person your going to meet up with is all who he apears too be..
tbh Squalion, Legend of mir is a mmorpg, why do we feel the need too up in real life at mirstock? i think i was the youngest kid too be there without a guardian
But in terms of a girl meeting up with a single person, there is no need and thats the most dangerous situation, somebody going out on there own too meet somebody they probally haven't even heard speak..
but then again, i went too puras house on my own aswell :S
True he is a sick *******, he deserved everything coming to him... theres some things i dont like about the story though, including squal's statement. One of them anyway is spin on the pictured used .. its making the guy more evil, just like with tony martins pic.
anyway, as I said, he deserves everything coming to him

Using a picture of him looking stern faced just conforms too the sterotype, which helps the story too sell and also makes people like that look worse which is what they do deserve (alot of the time,.)
Well with mir it's different, after a long time playing, a group of like 50 adults/teenagers met for a laugh..that's very different to a one-to-one meetup, which is pointless really.
I'd feel safe with anyone from TF but I'm clever enough to know who's a paedo and who's not..basically kids at young ages shouldn't even need internet chatrooms..whats wrong with pokemon for gods sake?? lol
I think this whole problem is mostly the fault of parents not supervising their kids, or checking their emails (I know it may seem wrong to 'spy' on your kid, but would you rather spy on them, or leave them alone where they could be abducted by some 60 year old pedo?)
