| Clan Lord It became clear that the Emperor's vision of Utopia was much different then any sane being's vision of perfection. The Emperor's Utopia was one of stagnation, where no new ideas were sought and where the status quo was mandatory. Many of the people that the Emperor exiled in addition to thieves and scoundrels were brilliant scholars and mages. |

How do I sign up and get a character?
Go to the Clan Lord web pages. Enter the serial number that came with your CD. Choose an Account Name. This doesn't have to be your name or your character's name -- just something unique. Choose a password. Make it a good one -- anybody who guesses it can take your character's stuff, delete your character completely, and generally make life miserable. Click the "Sign Up" button. That's it for registration. To create a new character: Run Clan Lord. Choose "Character Manager" from the "File" menu. Enter your Account name and password, and hit OK. Click the "Create..." button. Enter the name of your character. Click OK. That character should now show up in your Character Manager now. Select it and click "Play." It will only let me create one character. How do I get more? Clan Lord only comes with a single character. Each additional character costs a one-time $9.95 registration fee. There is no additional monthly charge for multiple characters, but remember that you'll only be able to play one character per account at a time. Email Joe if you'd like another character. I created the Account okay, but when I go to the Character Manager, it says "Account does not exist." Sometimes the web pages don't talk to the Clan Lord server quite right. One easy fix is to click "Log In" on the Clan Lord web pages and change your Account password to the same thing it was. This will make the web pages try to talk to the server again. If that doesn't work, send email to Joe. I never played Clan Lord before -- I just bought the CD. No problem! Create your account, then try to play one of the free Demo characters, by choosing "Select Character" from the File menu. Clan Lord will automatically download the latest game updates. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay, now what do I do? You play Clan Lord by moving your character around and interacting with the world in conversation and action. You will have to defend yourself from the Lok'Groton's many beasts and it's easy to make friends along the way. Although Clan Lord is largely a social game for most people, some focus more heavily on combat, exploration, or other aspects of the world. More detailed information is available in the manual that accompanies the game CD (when you purchase it), or in the online version of the manual. This page offers just a very brief overview. You can also look at our What is Clan Lord, Clan Lord Tips, and Related Links pages, and the map of Puddleby island. Where? - The Center of the Clan Lord universe is Puddleby, a small but growing walled town populated by exiles, visitors, and some locals. There is a sentinel keeping watch but exiles can generally do as they please. Clans are officially outlawed but prominently exist in the realms ... but one does not need to ever join a clan to succeed. A simple economy is even beginning to form in this town on one of the larger islands in a chain ... somewhere off the eastern coast of Shan'Deral's main continent and the Ascendancy. Combat Interface - Attacking something is easy ... you 'bump' into it to swing with whatever weapon you hold. At the top left of your window are three bars, two of which change during combat. The top bar is your hit points. If it runs out, you're dead. Wait around to regain hit points, or find a Healer to fix you up. The second bar is more confusing: It's your Balance. When you attack, you use balance, and it regains slowly as you recover. If your balance is low, the monster you are fighting will have an easy time hitting you. What's more, you might not be able to get in a swing. The short result of this is that it's not a good idea to swing too fast. Wait for the monster to swing at you (so it's off balance), and swing at it then. Then recuperate your balance before swinging again. Gaining Skills - Kill monsters to gain experience. When you've gained enough, talk to the old men in the training areas and they will improve you. Some trainers are available to every exile, others are exclusive to professions. Ask around in town politely and most citizens will be glad to explain a thing or two. The world gets updated every second Wednesday with new features and areas. Revisit our main page regularly for updates and news. New players have to download the full version, but updates for existing players are typically small and fast. |
