Bounty Bay Online - The Nautic Century takes place in the time of explorers and pirates. In historically accurate places and in an ever changing political climate the Bounty Bay Online player experiences the time of the 14th to 16th century.
In Bounty Bay Online it´s the players that write history! Similar to the great explorers, buccaneers and pirates of old times, the players have to write the history of Bounty Bay Online.
In the wake of legends like James Cook (), Christopher Columbus () and other similar heroes of the time, you can discover new fauna and flora. You have to fight against fierce animals and battle against outlaws and mythical creatures from all cultures. Governors and other influental personalities hand out important assignments to boost the glory and fame of their subjects. With their help you can advance your career and maybe one day get a peerage. In the end, you may be responsible for the political fate of the nation.
If you are sailing alone in your merchant ship or are part of a larger convoy, you always have to keep an eye out for the dreaded pirates and either avoid pirate infested waters or protect yourself with heavy escorts to reach your destination port alive. As a pirate that knows no authority, you have to avoid cities with too many trained guards. Secret bays and caves are your home and protect you between your raids.
Farmers grow rare plants out of expensive seeds on their soil and when a blockade of ports endangers the supply lines it is them who will keep the innocent population alive. Crafters need more and more raw materials to make heal potions, weapons, armor and ships and when commodities from local sources run low, they have to go to sea to find new deposits.
The world of Bounty Bay Online is the world of legends like Christopher Columbus, James Cook and Vasco da Gama, but first and foremost it is your world!
Christopher Columbus (1451-1506): The New World!
In the middle of the 14th century the Ottoman Empire (wikipedia.gif) blocked all land trade routes between Europe and Asia with high taxes and ambushes on trade caravans. When trading of exotic plants, silk and spices has all but completely stopped, the idea to find a western seaway between Europe and Asia was born.
* August 3rd 1492: Under the command of Christopher Columbus the Santa Maria set sail from the port of Palos de la Frontera together with two other ships.
* September 14th 1492: Columbus crosses the equator for the first time.
* October 12th 1492: The fleet reaches San Salvador close to the American coast.
* May 11th 1502: Columbus starts another voyage to find the western passage to India.
* August 14th 1502: With his flagship Capitana Christopher Columbus reaches the bay of Honduras. At the same time the first European sets foot on the American continent!
The New World was finally discovered and Christopher Columbus's name went down in history.
Ferdinand Magellan 1480-1521: The circumnavigation of the globe!
At the beginning of the 15th century it was getting harder and harder to meet the demand for exotic spices. On Vasco Da Gamas eastward route to India, ships had to sail for very long and pirates and buccaneers attacked a lot of ships and because of this, and the harsh storms at the Cape of Good Hope a lot of ships were lost at sea. Because of this King Charles I. of Spain (wikipedia.gif) provided five ships to find a western sea route to India.
* August 10th 1519: The flagship Trinidad leaves port under the command of Ferdinand Magellan.
* November 20th 1519: The five ships cross the equator.
* Dezember 13th 1519: The Trinidad and her escort ships anchor in the South American bay of Rio De Janeiro.
* November 28th 1520: In spite of several mutinies, the ships reach the Pacific Ocean. The Pacific Ocean got it's name because the seas were calm when Magellan first reached it after a ferocious storm battered the ship for at least 36 hours earlier. Today the passage discovered by Magellan is called the strait of Magellan. From that day on Europe was provided with spices from Asia using a western sea route.
* April 27th 1521: Ferdinand Magellan dies of battle injuries he received in the Philippines.
* September 6th 1522: The Victoria under her Captain Juan Sebastián Elcano is the only ship of the convoy to make it back home safely. He used Vasco da Gamas route around the Cape of Good Hope to return to Spain.
The circumnavigation of the globe was done! Even though it wasn´t Magellans intent to circumnavigate the globe when he started his voyage, his expedition was the first to make it. Because of this Magellan is perceived as one of the greatest seaman of all time!
Vasco da Gama (1469-1524): The sea route to India!
At the end of the 14th century all known sea and land routes were more dangerous than ever. Letters of marque (wikipedia.gif) issued by seapowers like France, England, Portugal and Spain made it extremely difficult for ordinary merchant ships to reach their homeports with their goods. The only resort seemed to be a new sea route along the African coast eastwards to India.
* July 8th 1497: Starting from the port of Restelo in Lisbon four ships under the command of their commander Vasco da Gama on his flagship "S. Gabriel" set sail for their long voyage.
* November 4th 1497: The fleet reaches the bay of St. Helena on the West African coast.
* April 7th 1498: After passing the Cape of Good Hope Vasco da Gama reaches Mombasa.
* 20th 1498: Vasco da Gama lands in Calcutta on the Indian Malabar coast.
The sea route to India was found and Vasco Da Gama's name went down in history.
