The Big DebateIf you feel the need to get your teeth stuck right into a heavy debate on a subject you feel really passionate about, then this is the place to do so. Post about religion, politics, laws and all things juicy like that here.
America did another one of those High School Gun Massacres and this was the most successful to date. Except that it was in a University, or maybe a College, they call them different things to us. The High School even has it's own Police to go onto TV and bring the event home to viewers intent on knowing every gruesome and grisly detail.
Luckily the Police didn't close the School down when some guy was murdering 30 plus people and deprive the surviving students of their valuable lessons. This was because they thought he had probably gone home. But he hadn't, so a bit of a blunder there.
Obviously my sympathies go out to all the families in any way involved with the poor dead, previous record holders for the Most successful High School Gun Massacre ever, we cannot begin to imagine the depth of their bereavement. Let us pray.
Did you even READ the article? Because you're posting utter garbage.

Its pretty crazy all in all that people still think the right to own a gun is important, at a time when schools and universitys need their own police forces and things like this happen.
I cant imagine how crappy it is to have your classmates and friends killed in front of you, or your kids killed while at school. Its just sad that it pales in insignificance compared to the death and destruction in other places in the world, particularly those weve invaded.
The African-American kids in London seem to have quite a few guns.
Didn't Britain already win the Serial Killer world record with Dr Shipman... it would be bad news if some Black kid happened here and we had to send for Norris McWhirter.
It is as if there is a big slippery flume, lubricated with urine, that we are currently looping the loop in with our arms in the air, which America has already got to the bottom of and ended up buried up to it's neck in a splash-pool of s**t and placenta.
The only way out I can see is some sort of Soma-esque hypnotic that could be dispersed into the atmosphere and make everyone chilled out. But that happened in that channel 5 Stephen King series and everyone all got alzheimers as a side-effect and we turned into a world of George Bushes and Terry Wogans.

also happened in firefly/serenity.... "in 5% of the population it had the oppposite effect, hieghtening aggression and violent tendancies"
the bulk of this issue in the states revolves around their consitutional right to bear arms. The government, and civil population will not permit an outright ban on gun ownership and still prefer to regulate them instead.
The truth of the matter is these people are too stupid to realise that a "consitutional right" decreed centuries ago when there was an actual NEED to bear arms isnt applicable anymore. Most legitimate US gun owners dont need the guns they own, and yet they keep on buying them anyway.
Dont get me wrong, i like guns and enjoy using them. But i recognise that under UK law i shouldnt have one, and accept the fact, because i dont need one.
Maybe darwin was right however. In the US we're seeing more and more people gunned down, in a lot of cases with legally owned weapons, simply because the populace is too backwards to move on past this 200yr old "right" and implement a ban. Its just "civil" evolution.
Let them kill themselves. We can only hope that as the situation escalates, that the stupid majority manage to kill themselves off leaving the US populated with a more intellegent and evolved minority.

Unfortunately the idiots in cases like these tend to go around killing recklessly rather than aiming solely for their own kind, otherwise I'd agree with you.

the right to bear arms is a necessary evil. if one amendment can be removed then what stops them all from being removed?
fact is if these kids wanted to hurt people they could do as much damage with home made explosives as they can a gun.
Its an ammendment. Its an existing change to the original constitution, and therefore not an original part of it. If "ammendments" can be made, i do not see why they can not be similarly deleted or made void.
while they're called amendments, they were made a long time ago.
incidentally, gun control isn't as big an issue in america as you would be made to believe. gun deaths count for hardly anything compared to the numerous other ways people die in the US:
Quote:
Here's the 1999 Center for Disease Control statistics (which is what Bowling uses) for the US:
Deaths from heart attack & other cardiovascular failure: ........ 892,558
Deaths from cancer: ................... 549,838
Deaths from flu & pneumonia: .... 67,730
Deaths from kidney failure: ......... 35,525
Deaths from diabetes: .................. 68,399
Deaths from alcohol ingestion .....19,171
Deaths from gun homicides: ....... 10,217 (includes self-defense and police killings of criminals)
Deaths from gun accidents .............. 824 (not a typo)
yeah thats right, more flu deaths than gun deaths.
ALSO in Switzerland, most of the male population carry firearms (as most are enrolled in the militia) and they even hold annual festivals for shooting, yet the UK has a 50% higher homicide rate than they do. (and they have about a SIXTH less than the USA).

It feels a little weird in Switzerland with their gun laws and conscription, but that in my case was simply because i'd been in the armed forces myself and had been used to a different system.
If you are a conscript 18-55 years old, or something like that, you are legally obliged to have the standard issue rifle and amunition at your home and once yearly you have to go for training and the likes.
Personally, I feel the big difference there, is that in Switzerland, people are trained and are tought the sensible approach to firearms, so they don't see it as a power trip and a necessary thing to brag about and go killing people with.
Almost all gun crime in Switzerland is done by foreigners.
Think you could have used a better word than successful something like Horrendous is more apt and previous record breakers you make it sound like a yearly competition. It's appauling and heartbreaking tbh what this world is coming to

While horrendous would have been a better word in our thinking, from the point of view of the South Korean who managed to kill those 32 people, it is unfrotunately the most successful massacre, that person has managed to embed themselves into American history and give themselves a kind of sick immortality.
I've always wondered why the death toll isn't higher.
If I went on a shooting rampage in my town center let alone liverpool I could rack up a kill count higher than 32 in minutes(ive thought about the odd gun toting rampage on occasion), so usually the gun massacre people I suspect aren't going for a specific high score but a more select group of people in their minds.

The Americans used "Attacks mark deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history" and "the deadliest mass shooting in the United States occurred in 1991, when George Hennard drove a pickup truck into a Killeen, Texas, cafeteria and fatally shot 23 people, before shooting and killing himself."
Yes can see your point on what that Korean must have thought and maybe other Koreans think about it too who knows and who knows what vendettas this might bring about.
well, some facts.
it has nothing to do with high schools.
it is the most brutal mass shooting in the united states ever.
the "american" who did the killing, was born in south korea.
he did leave a long note in his room, but the details of that note have yet to be released.
And the Constitution started with the Bill of Rights which are the original 10 "ammendements"
Therefore they weren't "added" they were what this country was founded on.
Consequently, the right to bear arms is #2, ie: in the original constitution, was not something added.
All I see in this thread is people crying and calling america evil.
Sure, we've got a ton of issues here, but guess what, there are crazy people EVERYWHERE.
Get off your high horses and stop trying to bad mouth a people, just because the actions of a few.

erm excuse me plse rephrase that nowhere in my post have I called america evil or bad mouthed anyone
How's about you stop using the USA as the 'bad example' of the world and start looking closer at you and where you live, and what contributes to our higher crime rate.
Remember what Det said about Switzerland's gun policy? Well that same policy means Switzerland has fewer gun deaths in proportion to it's population than the UK. When 14% of it's homes hold automatic weapons....
I'm inclined to believe that when a murder occurs, the average reasonable person wouldn't go blaming the gun manufacturer...but NO AMERICA SUXXZZZ LAWL.

I wouldn't call that evolution. I'd call that the quickest way to annihilate the human race. Much faster than a virus or a climate shift. The most ******ed people in the world are living next to the most sophisticated, powerful weapons array the world has ever seen..big woo.

BBC news over here have been reading extracts from the note that he left, not all of it as it is several pages long apparently, but little snippets.
I agree there are crazies everywhere, not just America or the UK and it is stupid if people tar an entire nation with one brush for something such as this or anything else.
One thing most British people do think America as a nation is completely stupid for though, is the gun laws and that because it is written into the US constitution that people have the right to own a gun and that it is set in stone for ever and ever. In this country you can only legally own a gun under the strictest of guidelines and can only shoot in controlled conditions and the likes, so with that, when we keep hearing of shootings happening in America, of course, people are left to think that the American policy on guns is stupid and needs changing, a bit late though really considering it is considered that 4 out of every 10 Americans owns a gun.
I personally do not think or call Americans as individual people stupid or evil although every race and breed has them, I do however think that the US government is very stupid, evil and corrupt and that it does tell it's own story though, that the people of America voted monkeh man back into power, nevermind the putting him in power in the first place.

Yeah, here in the UK we voted Blair back in. Jesus, at least Bush has some sort of power with which to project his illegitimately elected dickery. Instead, we have the little deputy. The one everyone hates anyway. Because we don't have a real democracy...

I'd karma you if I could. That does seem to be the pertinent attitude here, obviously with a few exceptions.
