Not that I remember and I started work in the mid sixties The Thatcher Government inherited a financial nightmare after the Callaghan (labour) Government were finally kicked out. Quite simply, Labour governments have always promised everything to everyone and delivered nothing in my time. Why ? because none of them has ever been able to run a simple 'current account'
Just for the sake of history, the Thatcher Government had to spend their first 7 years in power trying to get the national debt under control. The Major Government (Conservative) were just a bunch of incompetent dodgy geezers and deserved to be kicked out.

I do disagree regarding Major though, I think he was just the poor unlucky sod that was handed the poisoned chalice, at the end of the Thatcher era, at the point where power had gone to her head and had started to seriously cloud her judgement and decision making, sadly and no matter what he did, he was on a hiding to nothing.
depends on your definition of family , acordding to the Tories , my family is a "pretend family", my partner , according to the tories , should have no rights to my property should i die , he shouldn't be allowed to adopt any children i have , schools were not allowed to promote my lifestyle as an acceptable choice & spent a large amount of resources demonising my friends & family & legislating against them . As a gay man who grew up during the Thatcher years , frankly i dread Cameron getting in so that him & his cronies can create laws that erode my rights to create my Family my way. Yeah the economy may be up the swanny , but I feel my Human Rights & my family have been protected far more under Labour that any Conservative government ever did or could.

The following sentence under your username even scares me "You Will Be Like Us" Did the Pope have a point when he implied that homosexuality and associated sexual deviance was a threat to the world ? You are correct about me being intolerant in many things as experience has taught me clearly that society can have a bit too much democracy. How can you justify your sexuality? Its not something you choose and you in reality cant justify, its just a part of you. Its like saying justify being white, or justify being male. I am white because I am, I'm male just because I am and im gay just because I am. As Gloria would say I am what I am!
I dont worry too much about the tories taking away gay rights, it would be very hard for them if not impossible thanks for the EU,stonewall etc.
Its only in a few states in America have some gay rights being eroded, but most of them are now are becoming more and more liberal.
Its always been pretty much labour since i grew up, Ive never really had any personal problems, I mean people say our country is messed up but I quite like it, we are a country of whiners, no matter how much a state does for us we still wont be happy, there will never be a perfect utopia,people just need to take the good with the bad and get on with thier lives.
