The Big DebateIf you feel the need to get your teeth stuck right into a heavy debate on a subject you feel really passionate about, then this is the place to do so. Post about religion, politics, laws and all things juicy like that here.
I don't think you were alone in making such a prediction...
I doubt future generations will be saying anything different than the current generations say, which is generally a bunch of moans and groans, completely pointless when virtually no kind of action is taken by anyone at any point to do anything about anything, as like virtually everything else in this country, people have become far to, lets say, complacent, blasé, nonchalent, detached, indifferent, lazy, cowardly, indecisive, backwards thinking, fame crazed, etc, etc, etc, to actually do anything about things that should be important.
I used to care what future generations would think, frankly, now i'm really at the point where I don't give a crap what happens to anybody outside of my own family unit, because time and time again, it is constantly shown that almost nobody else gives a crap about anything other than their selves, so in a completely selfish train of thought, why the fek should I. Hell 2 generations time is only about 5 years away at the current rate of breeding, all of which is sponging from the system and making a good living at doing absolutely jack shit except being baby factories. Where as I can't get a single penny of assistance or any other form of help with anything at all, simply because my household income is £300 above the pverty line, because I speak English, because I don't have a handful of bastard children, because the colour of my skin is white and because I am not bound by a religion. Sod it, why the fek should I care what future generations think about anything, I can't afford kids and have too much common sense to breed for the sake of it when I know can't consiously afford them.
You say last 11 years, which clearly indicates that you are pointing fingers at Labour for all the current financial problems this country has... How about point the finger at the millions of people going round getting themselves in uncontrolable debt, conning the system from every angle to get credit card after credit card and then simply declaring themselves bankrupt and leaving the government to sort it out. The governments of the whole world have to share the blame and not just now, going back many many years. Putting people to the point where nobody gives a shit about taking care of themselves, of their own finances, of their own well being, of being able to put food on their table is down to both the people and governments. People have things to easy and as has been said have become far to lazy and complacent about everything. Personally, I don't care which government is in power, the are all as bad as each other, none of them have the balls to make the unpopular decisions needed to put this country in any kind of stable position, simply because they know full well, to sort this country out would mean taking decisions that would get them voted out of government at the earliest possible opportunity, something which is obviously worksa against every instinct of every single weazley politican out there.
So, don't go asking me what I think people would, should or could think in the future... You tell me with all your debating experience and decades of life skills to call up on, what do YOU think needs to be done right now to actually correct the situation that is a financially failing country and how the rot can be stopped from effecting future generations????? Because right now, looking at the scum wandering the streets from my frontroom window, i'd say there is jack shit that can or will be done in time to effect the next 10 generations, because nobody gives a crap about anything any more.
While I'm not nearly as disgusted as Det, I agree that the adage: "Think globally, act locally" is appropriate. Take good care of your own family, neighborhood, and work place, and things will usually work out for the best at a much broader level. When you blame Labour or Conservatives, Republicans or Democrats, be sure that you have a better alternative.
The world runs in cycles, economics, hem lines, sun-spots, ice ages. We'll get through this one too. A new group of leaders will replace the current batch and the pendulum will swing the other way. Consider all the past disasters that we have survived, all the changes we've adapted to - we'll get through this period too. Does anyone really want to go back to the 50s, or 1890s, whenever the "Good Olde Days" were?
And Bilko, why not post something amusing or inspiring once in a while? Help keep Det's blood pressure down.

A fair question that deserves an honest answer, suspend Parliamentary Government and install a Military Regime for 4 years who report directly to HM. Drastic yes, but I see no alternative at present.
@ Laz. Sorry for the lack of humour but don't worry about Det too much, chefs are naturally stroppy but soon recover (giggle icon). As we speak he is probably concockting some impossible to answer response to me !!!!!

Reason: Answer Laz
I wouldn't worry about Det, it actually takes a lot to get him riled and everyone enjoys a steamy debate
And while my heart breaks at the plight of others around the world (I cry at Pinks song "dear mr president" im a soppy moo) and if I could change it I would, but I understand that I cannot change the world I can only do my bit raising my children well, my bit for the environment and make a better future for me and mine.

If everyone just followed that example we would have no problems Now thanks to selfish cowerdly arse-heads, we've (financially) stitched up the next two generations.
any solution needs to consider the mass exodus of production to countries like china.
and erm, I'm sure we'd do great with "Dad's Army" running the country.
but its the big companies that make the decisions which most affect things.
therefore government needs to make laws or incentives or dicincentives or whatever so they make decisions which better suit our situation, rather than just their shareholders bank balance.
One of the biggest problems with the complacency and respect issue is that complacency spreads quickly, where as respect doesnt seem to. Lots of people complain about this country and dont care about it anymore, which makes others not care so much because they feel taken advantage of or like theyre getting a raw deal when they see others abusing it or fucking it up.
The question i have is what can people do. As mentioned Sash's mentality of how to live sounds solid and respectful, but her doing that wont make other people follow suit. How do you change the lifestyle, respect and national pride of the entire country or at least the vast majority?
And ultimately is there any point in bothering wanting/trying to better the country by upholding standards (aside from the issue of personal pride), if its so unlikely to get any better?
Specifically to the topic though, most of the financial loaning etc was allowed by the systems and could have been monitored/stricter. A lot of people are stupid, id go as far as saying that the majority of people arent fully clued up about important decisions they make. Plenty of people saw house prices rise and tried to jump onboard to get as much as they could as soon as possible more by fear than greed, brokers saw them coming and made insane mortgages continuing to artifically inflate the prices. Again, people shouldnt be able to file for bankrupcy without some kind of punishment for it, be it community service or something like a student loan that puts them on a higher tax bracket for life. Its amusing that the same lenders who infated things and arguably caused the majority of the problem are also now responsible for hindering some potential growth by not lending and hence further crippling businesses and spending.
People will continue to be idiots in general and people will continue to try to exploit everything they can, the only way of stopping it is the system and the system is or has been inadequate. Is a thread a short time back where Ashante was talking about how if people screw up on their loans\mortgages etc they should have no sympathy for not having researched it first.
Like I said at the beginning of the financial crisis, we shouldnt need to do anything because iot will bounce back and there will be the next boom, and it will recycle itself again and again.
After the last bust of the early 90's they said it would never happen again, just like it did in the 80's.
Until and unless there is a total change in financial systems theat benefit the population as a whole then it will never be anything other than boom and bust, the only difference is the depths or heights.
I could go on for hours and hours about the system, immigration population control, banking system, savings pensions etc but wont bore you, especially as its passed my bed time.
suffice it to say, that by the end of next year i forsee the crisis almost over. I do not blame homeowners as much as i blame the banking system that allowed people to by homes. The bubble burst well over 5yrs ago, and i guess banks knew it, but were in denial.

Bore away, please do,or however you want to put it... It'd be better than the current hardly ever posting by anyone...
