The Big DebateIf you feel the need to get your teeth stuck right into a heavy debate on a subject you feel really passionate about, then this is the place to do so. Post about religion, politics, laws and all things juicy like that here.
For the first time in my life I'm considering not voting. Why I ask myself ? I simply don't want to be 'represented' by today's sort of human being who becomes an MP. That also includes those individuals who will come out of this looking like saints in the expenses row. These arse-heads have been quietly turning a blind eye to their colleagues disgraceful behaviour.
On the other hand, this could be a superb opportunity to give the big political parties a good kicking at the polls Any views on this ?
beginning to wonder if someone like bnp is what we need now to show how crap all the main parties really are.
i actually considered voting for the green party last time i voted ><
Why are we voting to put MEP's in jobs that they dont get a vote in EU till next year ?
Don't they get plush salaries just to watch until the irish and some other country sort out their views ? or is that just another corruption antic goin off....

It would, without shadow of doubt, be the end of Britain as we know it. Have a read of their (BNP) manifesto
Anyone who thinks any version or method of repatriation will work in any western country is seriously in need of professional help. Having said that, all they (BNP) need is one MP or control of a Council and you'll remember where you read this forecast first
Detomah, fame could be heading your way for this site on June 5th 2009 Now where did I put our passports....? (Oh sod it, I'm too old and lazy so it's time for the pub )
Id consider voting BNP because while i dont want them in power, id like the major parties to edge a bit more in their direction or at least stop sitting on the middle ground fence. Id feel like a tit if id voted them and they got in power even locally though
What is the point in voting in the UK now, when the only 2 partys with any chance of winning are so similar it makes pretty much no difference who's in power. That and the fact that the majority of the UK arent educated enough to make decisions on who would be best for the country and just vote off random daily mail opinions. Its amusing that even the government doesnt trust the uk public to make the right decisions from themselves with all the control they put in place, yet were allowed to vote?
Theyd be better off making a coalition government and just having us vote on more referendums.
what's the point? they are all the same! shandy drinking yuppie boys who chase other men,
whilst wearing women's underwear, all dodgy dealing millions of pounds of public money,
you can work all your life and end up with bugger all, yet some foreign get can climb
out of the seaweed and filth at dover, and get a house, a car, a credit card with a £20000 limit, free food and medical treatment for life, without uttering a single word of english?
it's about time the people of england got a backbone and wiped the slate clean,
if there is a party that has the ability to step up the plate and sort out our poor old island
before it's too late, then i'll gladly vote for them, providing they can come up with
the goods and reform.
Bloody hell, mars is not in the mood for niff-naff-and-trivia conversation today ! However, even I find it difficult to argue with him at the moment Think I'll have another bottle of Bishops Finger
the trouble is now you people have had it so good for so long, in fact a lot probably don't even remember the constant blackouts we used to have with the miners strike etc,, cities submerged under garbage because of disputes with council refuse workers etc,,, phones that when they did work didn't work that well, and when they stopped working it took months to get them fixed,,
OK so we have other problems now ,,, but think how much worse it could get if no one voted !
dont let the dark side get in, its there waiting for an opurtunity

Reason: now with added extra darkness
Why are anti europe parties (BNP, UKIP) standing for europe?
They can now smell real power as a result of weakness and stupidity of the other political groups The same thing happened in 1932 and look what the world got in 1933

wow that makes you sound soooo old
thing is I do remember all those things so come over here and sit in this rocking chair next to me, I think I have a spare blanket for your legs
Mmmmm - interesting, I missed almost all of the 70s in Britain but I do remember not so dissimilar problems in the 60s that were also due to industrial unrest, high national debt and rubbish MPs Thinks it's early to the pub today
Problem is that we don't have proportianal representation. Although it would lead to many hung parliaments or power sharing we just dont get to vote for who we want to represent us..
I shall be voting lib/dem this time round, as i did last election. In 97 i voted labour for the change but they have demonstrated that they havent moved on from the 70's despite Tony Blairs bullshit new labour rubbish. Gordon Brown is an unelected Prime Minister, and was an idiot as a exchequer. And we have the gaul to call this a democracy?
the lib/dems would probably keep taxes high, but they do seem to promise a value for those taxes and a real return we could see; only time would tell (if they ever get in power).
Since the 17th century when these idiot barons and landed gentry got real power there has always been corruption and dodgy dealings. What irks me the most is that Labour was created on the back of the working man, the poor and unuslty down-trodden, yet they have demonstrated a unique and special ability to be more sleazy, underhand and unattached as the tories ever were.
when i vote, it will be for the lib/dems, at least they own up to saying that they will tax and what they will do with it. If imto be taxed to the hilt i want a return for it, just like in germany and rest of europe you know what your paying for. It is too long we have lived in rip off Britain, the 5th biggest economy in the world and told we have to be happy with crap service.
It is almost a complete carbon copy of the 1970's, Gordon Brown Tony Blair and the labour party are nothing more than morons who couldnt quite make it to the conservatives.
I want a public transport system that works, and an NHS that is the envy of the world. I dont want to pay for rhetoric and utter incompetence as we have for the passt 11yrs.
In fact I should be president of the world, stuff would be sorted then
Not my usual vote for this kind of thing, but on this occasion I have taken on a more strategic stance and have voted in a way that I think will make a difference.
I wouldn't want the UKIP in power, but would like them to have a bigger say in Euro decision making and maybe have the odd seat in the Euro parliment. I do not want the normal dimwits having a free run with every decision they make,as it clearly isn't working out too well.
Sadly however, I fear that like some of the comments on this thread, the understanding of the difference between voting for MEPs and local UK elections and what is actually at stake, has become somewhat blurred across the nation and that as per normal, most people in this country will not have the sense to actually make their vote count or even have any understanding of why they cast their vote the way they do.

Absolutely correct in my humble opinion so I'll have another go at this one.
Local elections are terrifyingly important because ultimately it's all about Council Tax (CT)and nothing else. Local services are important but in the final analysis, they only really amount to bins, bogs, bobbies and buses for the majority of us. I will accept that roads are equally important but they come under the Highways Agency.
Political parties who promise new swimming pools, local charity grants etc..will stick it on your CT irrespective of what they tell you about their cost cutting policies.
European elections are the really big issue. 75 % of all our laws are now made in the EU. If you're happy with that, you should be wondering why our Government is the size it is ? If you're not happy with that, vote UKIP.
To vote for other minority groups is fine but pointless if you want real change for staying in or leaving the EU. On the other hand, our Conservative Party is reforming a 'right of center' European Political Group with other EU countries so that will do for me.
Not to vote at all will only confirm what those arrogant lot in the political classes believe about us, "why bother, they (us) don't understand anything"
Now you may ask why I had doubts about voting when I put this thread up ? Not anymore having seen the replies and recognised most of us are generally in agreement and standing in roughly the same position. The only differences that appear to exist - we're just looking in different directions.
