Why be sorry, very few people with any sense at all would disagree with the fact that what Brand and Ross did was unacceptable and was deserving of punishment. It's the events that have taken place since that have driven me and probably most others, mad.
For a start, i'm sure a lot of shows have way worse said on them during production, but that ends up on the cutting room floor and rightly so. Also, they would have had some production team watching over the presenters while they performed their stunts and that production persons job is to stop the presenter from being arseholes. then there is the editing department that is supposed to spot these things that would cause trouble and remove them and i'm sure there are others involved in the process before it does finally make it to air, so all of those people are responsible for the events ever being allowed to place and for it being stupidly allowed to make it onto the air.
Really though, the entire situation deserved less than 10 minutes of news air time, an immediate public apology, slapped wrists and a fine payable to charity, maybe suspension for a week or two just to show that it really isn't allowed and that's it, no more news, no more bandwagon, no more mountains from mole hills, no more complete waste of tax payers money and licence fee money. Yet 2 weeks later and it's still keeping such events in Congo, Pakistan and a whole variety of much much more important news froim being reported sufficiently.
So Brand has his show Ponderland on E4 as of last night, and quit his job on Radio 2, it'll have hardly damaged his career, if anything it'll make him more popular in places like America, where i'm sure certain channels would love to have him shocking their audiences. Ross will serve his 12 weeks unpaid holiday which i'm sure he'll love as it'll give him Christmas off, while losing a paltry £1Mil in wages and all will be forgiven and forgotten come springtime just in time for his shows to come back as normal.
Georgina Baillie is perfectly happy to simulate sex on the net where millions can see her boobs and a whole range of simulated lesbian sex scenes, she was also perfectly happy to spred her legs for Brand, even though it's always been a well known publically aired fact that he brags abouit his sex life anjd who his victims have been, where ever possible. There is no chance in hell that her granddad is so bloody niave not to have known full well what she was up to and that at some point it would be publically thrown in his face, it's human nature, it's what happens unfortunately, what has happened here is mild by comparison to a lot of crap going on, in fact a heck of a lot of channels are perfectly happy to air far worse stuff than that.
Georgina Baillie will in the long run benefit from the publicity i'm sure and Andrew Sachs i'm sure will benefit from the commission from the boost in sales of the Fawlty Towers special edition box set which will be re-released in time for Christmas. Ross and Brand will undoubtedly benefit from higher book and dvd sales in whatever their names are attached too and so, with that, the only person who's really suffering from all of this is Lesley Douglas, who's now out of a job, having been pretty much forced out and made a scapegoat of.
So yeah, punishment has been required, but what's gone on and for so long as a result of it, seriously not required, nor wanted...
The funniest thing of the lot regarding all this, was seeing Chris Evens coming out and condemning the bad behaviour of his fellow radio presenters... I mean WTF?????????
