If you didn't see it on the news or the internet, a Liverpool father found live ammunition rounds in his son's bedroom and called up the filth. The cops searched his room and found a handgun, a bloody real one, awesome.
The kid (looks about 19) was sentenced to 3 years in the nick, earlier on today. The minimum term for being busted with a real handgun is 5 years, but he got special circumstances because his dad ratted on him. The dad then came out and said he thinks 3 years is a bit harsh on the lad.
So there is the story, what do you guys think about the dad doing that? Would you call the police if your teenage kid had a gun? Or would you do what I would do and take it off him, give him a severe telling off, a bit of a kicking and dispose of the gun myself. Or keep it in a safe place?
Do you think it's right the lad got less than the normal minimum sentence because of his dad? Or do you agree with the dad that 3 years is too long?
To be honest, I don't think I can honestly say what my reaction would be to this kind of thing as I have no idea what the hell my kids are going to be like or what sort of parent I'm going to turn out to be.
That said, I think given the situation this probably turned out fairly well. I have to say, respect to the father for having the stones to grass on his own kid, that must've been a fucking hard thing to do. I don't think it was entirely wrong, though, as if this had gone down another way the lad would have ended up potentially getting some hefty jail time as opposed to 3 years. Although, there's the chance that the gun would have been passed on soon and of the kid never getting caught, so it's either 3 years too many or a crapload fewer depending on how you see it.
I'm not sure I agree with the 3 years, though, as folks do get a lot shorter sentences for worse crimes than having a gun...
If this kid has a gun and ammo under his bed he is probably a right little scrote and his dad probably has very little control over him. If you've got no control over him but you want to have a positive effect on his future then the police may be the only way. His other options would be do nothing or evict and disown him, neither of which are great solutions. Trouble is he's likely to come out of nick a bigger scrote than when he went in. Maybe disowning him would have been the best idea, at least then his son wouldn't hate him quite as much.
He should get way more than 3 years. There's no excuse, be fucking about with guns or knives for that matter and you should go down for a long time.

So you're saying that if someone offered you a cool looking semi-automatic pistol you wouldn't take it. At that age?
I've fired all sorts of guns, shotguns, (proper) rifles and crappy air shit. I'm sure as hell if someone offered me a pistol and some ammo for a few hundred squid I would take it.
I'm not going to use it to shoot people but it must be one of the most desirable toys in the world.
I have some swords and stuff but I think it would take a lot more evilness to sword someone up than gun someone up. Proximity and physical effort etc.
I think the handgun laws were a knee-jerk reaction to Dunblane and tennis star Andy Murray hiding in the cupboard. No sane person would say that everyone should pack heat, but the laws are too strong I think, they are punitive to people who are just curious or want to learn a skill, because of a few bad apples who shoot people.
If I was an evil and wanted to do a murder on someone, I would use a deer rifle which are perfectly legal where I live and are accurate from much greater distances. They absolutely kill your shoulder when you fire them and are surely much more lethal than some shitty pistol. But assholes in cities have to ruin it for everyone by shooting humans.
Some of you probably know the carthoid takedown which is a bare-hands kill move, but do you go about doing it to people? Of course not. Luckily most inner-city people can't read enough to learn stuff like that, but it's just as lethal as a gun.
There should be suitability tests devised and people who are no threat should be allowed to play with guns.

Cool as fuck toy maybe but you don't make these things acceptable just coz some kids think their cool. Down the line you'll end up with average people feeling like they have to own a gun to feel safe. What a shitty world to have to live in. Instead, make them totally unacceptable with heavy sentences. Other nob jockeys like this 19 year old need to be left with the message that you're gonna be going down for a long time if you even breath near a gun.
I believe you can still join a gun club or something if you want to play.
I think it was kind of evil for his dad to do that....the report makes it sound as if he literally found some bullets and went straight to the police, it doesnt sound like he tried to question his son and find some other way of dealing with it at alll. Calling the police should have been a last resort...it just seems like the ultimate betrayal to me =/

The sentence seems harsh but i guess necessary to keep gun crime at a minimum..i dont think he should have been given a lesser sentence because it was his dad that reported it as it doesnt make any difference to anything.
Having read it again I almost feel sorry for him considering he might have got no charges had his dad made him take the gun to the station instead. His dad was probably nieve to think that the police would be "helping" his son rather than banging him up and the later judges decision to reduce his sentence to 3 years was imo not unfair. Watching the video though the lad is definitely not an innocent dunce that was taken advantage of and very little if any sympathy is really deserved.
Overall I still say make examples of anyone found with a gun, 5 years absolute minimum.

the father may regret his decision but wether he did the right thing or not by ratting on him is irelevant as he obviously failed to bring him up in the first place to have more sense than to have a gun.

on the topic i agree with the fathers actions, the lad even agrees as his dad as moved him out of the area. The real shame is he has to do time and then when he gets out may face difficulties in trying to make a better life for himself.

None. My point was that someone said that muslims or 'bag heads' should get a new holocaust. I said that it could equally apply to white people. Both have good and bad people. I don't want a new holocaust for either, we should try and get along.
