The Big DebateIf you feel the need to get your teeth stuck right into a heavy debate on a subject you feel really passionate about, then this is the place to do so. Post about religion, politics, laws and all things juicy like that here.
Its civil law though not criminal law that hes being screwed under isnt it, because a company is trying to fine him for copyright infringement, not the police or whatever prosecution? So theres no police interferance, no raids etc, if it were like dodgy porn itd be referred to the police and youd get prosecuted for breaking the law etc, not a dispute between 2 parties liek this.
Anyway, it does look fairly convincing. You should still get a second opinion ofc, and u might be able to settle for less than the £900, but i wouldnt try to fight it in court unless you really know what ur doing. Turning up and saying lulz everyone does it innit, wont help
They tried this before, trying to apply this supposed 'German Law' actually in Germany.

It seems like it's impossible for them to prove who actually did it.
By the way don't reply otherwise they will spam you.
, I think you should stop posting on forums implying you actually did download it, just incase.
Best piece of advice yet.
And ER, if you had been my hubby, you would no longer have a pc, your balls would be nailed to the front door and a sign superglued to your back saying "I'm a dopey sod" (but in rather more explicit language )
Apart from that, I hope you sort it out, can't be good for the nerves.
lol you going to pay installments? lmao, tell them to go screw, buy a shiny new hard drive, install that, keep the old one, if the old bill come around smash it with a hammer. The proof from the isp is circumstantial to say the least, if there is no hard drive evidence, there's diddley they can do. And remember this, no hard evidence means they have to pay silly money to recover the 900, look at banks, they right off a grand to people they can prove owe them, simply because it would cost way too much to get that cash back. If it takes them 20 grand and 4 years to get all their money back, they'd probably make more investing it!
nothing so far,it seems DL are relying on folks just crapping it and paying up.
according to some sites i have been on they have not taken anyone to court as yet due to the evidence been not 100% as ip addresses can be cloned.
and i have spoke to folks who know more than me (and thats a lot) and it does seem that they cant do owt.
i will update any news i get.
i received a letter saying they are going ahead with the court case cos i hadn't made any payments.
it didn't look like an official letter it looked like a circular envelope as if they had a stack all made up quickly to send out, does that make sense?
I wonder if the recording and/or logging of your internet traffic is an intrusion of privacy.
If you want to use torrents you need to get the software that blocks connections from authorities.

Look at the terms and conditions with your ISP, (the small print)

Well, at least in Finland you can't make an agreement that's against the law, meaning you could make an agreement for someone to kill you and the killer gets a fee get away from jail card, if you go extreme. So, if there's a law that protects your privacy it overrides any agreement.

I believe the same is true in the UK, plus there's the unfair contract terms act and a recent one about deceptive business practices, but I doubt any privacy act would protect your privacy while carrying out an illegal act; that just doesn't seem likely.
There is a PeerGuardian2 that works with Vista now too, so there's really no excuse for being stupid enough to get caught.
What is a torrent anyway?
Given that they just use a standard p2p client and download files as a normal user would, I can't see how you can tell what IP addresses to block. The "low hanging fruit" might be people who don't block anything but even if you do it doesn't make you 100% safe.
