Getting Battleground Europe up and running on your computer is accomplished in 4 basic steps:
- Install the software, either from your purchased cd media or from a download.
- Create your Playnet account.
- Connect to the Battleground Europe servers to update with the most recent versions of the software.
- Adjust system configuration and settings
INSTALLATION:
INSTALLING FROM A CD-ROM
For PC:
Insert your Battleground Europe CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive. The Autorun menu should appear automatically. The CD will walk you through the installation process. The main game files are installed to the \Program Files\CRS\BE folder for the current user. This is also where the keymapper and audio/video settings files are stored.
NOTE: If you do not have Autorun enabled, double-click on the My Computer icon, and then double-click on the icon for your CD-ROM.
For MAC: Insert your Battleground Europe CD in your computer's CD-ROM drive. The Autorun menu should appear automatically. The CD will walk you through the installation process. The main game files install to the Applications folder for the current user, in the folder named Playnet. Another new folder under Library > Preferences > Battleground Europe is created, where the keymapper and audio/video settings files are stored.
PC OR MAC: INSTALLING FROM A DOWNLOAD
If your CD is two revisions (or more) older than the currently supported version you will need to download the latest full install of the game as well as the latest PlayGATE application from the Downloads page. Check the Battleground Europe website for the currently supported version. Once downloaded, simply double-click the file and the installation process will begin.
NOTE: Some of the files used by Battleground Europe are quite large; during the update process the system may appear to stall while updating these larger files. Please be patient and let the installer complete the update process.
CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT AND SUBSCRIPTION
In order to play Battleground Europe it is necessary to create a game account and activate your unique CD key. Current and accurate billing information is required at this time to ensure uninterrupted access to the game server once your free trial expires. Your account will not be billed until your free trial period has expired. A simple online process activates your CD key, creates your game account, and activates your Battleground Europe subscription in one short sequence of steps. Once you have completed this process and your billing information has been confirmed, you will have access to the game server.
If at any time you require assistance in setting up your account, please visit the player-run Community Support Forums from the Community links on the Battleground Europe website.
Battleground Europe is a pay-for-play online game; once you have created a valid game account a monthly subscription is required to play the full-featured game online. The monthly subscription entitles you to unlimited 24/7 access during the span of your subscription.
CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT
Follow the Subscribe link from the Battleground Europe website. You have two options for account creation:
Create New Account: If you are creating a new account or creating additional accounts you should choose this option.
Use Another Account: If you already have an existing game account or you have subscribed in the past and wish to re-subscribe, choose this option.
Next, fill out your personal profile. A valid email address is required in this profile for account confirmation and communications from the Battleground Europe development team. Once you have completely filled in this information click Next.
NOTE: If you selected the “Use Another Account” option in step one, simply fill in your member name and password. Continue with the next section, Choose a Subscription.
Please read completely through the Terms of Service at this time. The Terms of Service (TOS). is a binding agreement between the account holder, Playnet, and Cornered Rat Software (the BATTLEGROUND EUROPE development team), and contains important information regarding player conduct. Once you have read through the TOS. please indicate that you are at least 13 years of age or older and that you agree to the TOS. (If you are not 13 years of age or older you may not register yourself; you may have your legal guardian do so on your behalf.) Once you have done so click Next.
Review your selections and information at this time. If everything is correct; click Create User.
Your account has now been created. You will now receive an email copy of your account information which you should keep for your records.
Once your account has been created you may now choose your subscription.
CHOOSE YOUR SUBSCRIPTION
New Account users need to enter their unique CD key. The key can be found on the Battleground Europe CD sleeve or original jewel case. Do not lose your CD key and do not give it to anyone else. Each CD key is unique and tied to one specific account for that account’s lifetime. Should you lose your CD key it cannot be replaced without a new game purchase.
Step 1:
Choose your game name. This is the name other players will see in the game world and on the forums. For simplicity, many players prefer to have this identical to their member name but this is not required.
Choose your game name wisely – it will be your name in Battleground Europe permanently (subsequent name changes are subject to an administrative fee of $13.37). Game names using the names of historical figures, lewd or offensive words, or creatively spelled derivations thereof may be changed at the sole discretion of Playnet and Cornered Rat Software without prior notice or recourse to the account holder.
Step 2:
Select your subscription plan. Regardless of this selection, new accounts will not be billed until the end of their 30 day free trial period.
NOTE: The longer your billing cycle the less you pay. Battleground Europe offers one of the deepest discounts in the industry for long term billing cycles.
Once you have selected a billing period a drop box will appear asking for payment information. Acceptable forms of payment are credit/debit cards with a VISA or MasterCard logo, PayPal Payment Solutions, Pay-by-Cash , Western Union, and other methods), and finally Bibit Global Payment Solutions for international customers. Due to additional handling requirements, Pay-by-Cash customers are required to subscribe in 3-month increments or greater. Pay-by-Cash users may also be required to wait several days for their payment to be fully processed. As such, we strongly recommend Pay-by-Cash customers minimize the impact of this delay by selecting the longest subscription period possible to ensure uninterrupted access to the game servers.
Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing cycle you have chosen unless you return to account management tools and cancel your subscription. Please select your method of payment and click Next.
MANAGING YOUR ACCOUNT
To change or edit your account, simply follow the Help link on the Battleground Europe website to your account management tools. Once you have signed in you can update your user profile, email address, billing information, or change your subscription level.
AUTOMATIC UPDATE
An online game is a work-in-progress, new features and improvements to gameplay are continually implemented as part of your subscription service. Even if you just bought the game, there may be significant patches required to bring your installed version up to date.
If your version of Battleground Europe is not current and you have a valid Playnet subscription (see above), when you try to log into the game, your files will be automatically updated with the proper version. This install is automated, and requires only that you navigate through the install wizard.
Some larger updates may also be supported by widespread Bittorrent seeds; if you are not familiar with the Bittorrent application and are finding the download speeds extremely slow, you may wish to connect to
http://www.bittorrent.com and check it out. No matter what your connection speed to the internet is, this can save you download time!
CONFIGURING THE GAME
The Battleground Europe Settings application will run automatically during the initial installation process and than again whenever the game is patched. This application is covered in greater detail in the appendix section of this manual.

CONFIGURING SETTINGS ON WINDOWS
To access the Settings application in Windows click Start > Programs > CRS > BATTLEGROUND EUROPE > Settings. Windows users can also access the settings application in the BATTLEGROUND EUROPE folder located by default in \Program Files\CRS\BE. Once you have configured the game simply click the Apply button then OK. Detailed assistance for the various settings can be found by clicking on the Help button on each screen, or in the appendix section of this manual.
CONFIGURING SETTINGS ON MAC
To access the Settings application in Mac OSX go to Library > Preferences > BATTLEGROUND EUROPE. Once you have made your changes to the settings click OK to apply them. Detailed assistance for the various settings can be found by clicking on the Help button on each screen, or in the appendix section of this manual.
