Planned Maintenance & Downtime Required

Due to necessary upgrades and maintenance, TF will be temporarily shutting down at approximately 11pm on Wednesday 3rd September, 2008.

Due to the nature of the work required, it is expected that parts of the site may be offline for between 96 and 144 hours.

This is just to give everyone plenty of for-warning of the planned work.

We are writing to let you know about some upcoming maintenance to your WebFusion dedicated server.

Your server will be offline sometime between 11pm on 3 September 2008 and 7am on 4 September 2008 (BST). Any websites hosted on the server will be inaccessible for some of this period.

We do not anticipate any problems, but we do recommend you take a full backup of your server before we do the work.

WHY WE ARE DOING THIS

During this maintenance window your dedicated server will be moved into a brand new data centre.

The data centre is situated in our new building with better connectivity, improved power systems and a state-of-the-art climate control system.

We have planned carefully for this move and will have plenty of engineers onsite to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Total Format will now postpone the pre-planned maintenance to coinside with this server center work and thus insead of two bouts of down time, there will now only be one slightly elongated period of downtime.

Having discussed tomorrows maintenance with Webfusion, they have recommended that I wait a few days after they complete their move of server center, before I perform the work I need to do from this end, therefore, although TF will be unavailable for a few hours between the 3rd and 4th, the proper work I will be doing has now been delayed for a few days.

I will update this thread in a couple of days time to verify when the work will be done, although I suspect the work will now be done around the 10th September.

Anyway, if I hear anything more from Webfusion between now and when they move server centers I will keep people informed.

Well, having spent the last few hours monitoring things, it looks like WebFusion managed to complete their data center move without incident. I'm sure someone would have informed me on here if they were suffering form some new, weird and wonderful errors...

I'll be watching how smoothly things are working over the next couple of days and providing things are working properly, i'll then re-schedule the planned maintenance I need to do, fingers crossed I should be able to make an announcement on Sunday night and will most likely give 7 days notice in advance, meaning it will probably be around 14th when I begiin the work I need to do, the more I plan in advance, the less downtime TF needs to have, so I don't mind that i've had to delay the work a couple of times already, as it give me more time to prepare.
