What is Ages of Athiria?
Ages of Athiria is a next generation massively multiplayer persistent online world (MMPOW).
Who is creating Ages of Athiria?
Ages of Athiria is being designed and developed by Elysian Productions, Inc. Elysian Productions is located in Louisville, Kentucky and was formed for one purpose -- to create a next-generation Massively Multi-Player Online game. All of the founders of the company are long time software developers and gamers. They have built a team of professional developers, artists, and musicians to create the world of Athiria.
How much will Ages of Athiria cost?
At this time, the availability and cost of the game have not yet been determined. Various pricing plans are currently being considered.
What is an MMPOW?
A Massively Multiplayer Persistent Online World is more than just a game. It is truly a dynamic world simulation. A MMPOW is a constantly changing online environment that is accessed over the Internet. You are one of thousands of other players from around the world. Because the world of Athiria is persistent, anything and everything is dynamic. For example, the history of Athiria, the economy, the weather, the landscape, cities, wars, personal relationships, and politics can and will change. Anything that you do or accomplish in game will stay behind after you leave. The actions you take can (and will) directly impact the world of Athiria.
Can I play Ages of Athiria offline?
No, Ages of Athiria is an online world and will not exist as a stand-alone game.
When will Ages of Athiria be completed?
Currently, a technical demo for Ages of Athiria is being created. Once funding has been acquired, the Ages of Athiria team will begin development of the actual game world.
Will there be a public beta test of Ages of Athiria?
There will be several in-house alpha and beta testing phases. These will be followed by several public beta testing phases.
How do I apply to become a beta tester?
Currently, we are not accepting applications to become a beta tester for Ages of Athiria. However, we encourage the public to sign up for the Ages of Athiria Newsletter that will be periodically released to update the Ages of Athiria community on the progress of world development. Also, you can sign up for a MyAoA account in order to view and participate in member specific content. This content will be released soon!
What are the hardware requirements to play?
A high-speed Internet connection will be required in order to play Ages of Athiria. (256kb/sec or better download rate) The remaining hardware requirements have not yet been decided.
Why do I have to have broadband Internet access?
A broadband connection will be required in order to facilitate the expected dynamic streaming of world data. The world of Athiria will be ever changing and you will be able to watch it happen in real-time. Current 56K modems are not as reliable in terms of bandwidth as the various high-speed offerings. Because of the large amount of streaming content that will be delivered in real time, we felt it would degrade performance considerably if we tried to build the game for the 56K modem market. With the advent of satellite Internet delivery and the wide acceptance of recent high-speed solutions we felt this was the only way to go. We are sorry if this excludes someone that wishes to play our game and sincerely hope that they give us a try when high-speed access becomes available in their area.
How will the patching of the game work?
Patching of the game will happen automatically while you are in the world. No more waiting while the patch program downloads new content.
How many servers will Ages of Athiria run?
The server architecture of the game will be created to support thousands of simultaneous users on a single server. Our current goal is to be able to host 50,000 players concurrently on a single server
