I did a fair bit round Europe, but I lived in Switzerland at the time and had a car, so most of mine travelling was easy.
I know one thing a lot of people travelling around Australia do is actually buy a cheap car and use that to get around as it's a lot cheaper than constantly buying train and bus tickets, and internal flight tickets as well seeing how big the country is.
Are you going alone or as a group? Travelling can be dangerous for solo parties, so if you are travelling over there along, i'd recommend befriending someone and travelling together, far safer and if for example the car thing is an option, it would cut cost down dramatically.
Make sure you have bloody good travel insurance.
Make sure have a plan of action, where you want to go, what you are prepared to pay for accomodation, what food budget, etc.
Make sure you have insect bite cream and be aware of local beasties that can bite, eat, kill, sting, etc.
Make sure if you go to the outback that people know your route and the likes. Most little otwns have tourist charters where you can actually let people like the police know where your going, therefore if you breakdown out in the desert your not completely on your own, as a search party should be on it's way at some point.
I've never been to Australia, but i'm sure some others must have. So.. c'mon folks, offer up some of your valuble information and help Yzerman out here... No need at all for threads like this to go unanswered for like 2 weeks. Stop being so lethargic peeps.
