One of the biggest problems with the complacency and respect issue is that complacency spreads quickly, where as respect doesnt seem to. Lots of people complain about this country and dont care about it anymore, which makes others not care so much because they feel taken advantage of or like theyre getting a raw deal when they see others abusing it or fucking it up.
The question i have is what can people do. As mentioned Sash's mentality of how to live sounds solid and respectful, but her doing that wont make other people follow suit. How do you change the lifestyle, respect and national pride of the entire country or at least the vast majority?
And ultimately is there any point in bothering wanting/trying to better the country by upholding standards (aside from the issue of personal pride), if its so unlikely to get any better?
Specifically to the topic though, most of the financial loaning etc was allowed by the systems and could have been monitored/stricter. A lot of people are stupid, id go as far as saying that the majority of people arent fully clued up about important decisions they make. Plenty of people saw house prices rise and tried to jump onboard to get as much as they could as soon as possible more by fear than greed, brokers saw them coming and made insane mortgages continuing to artifically inflate the prices. Again, people shouldnt be able to file for bankrupcy without some kind of punishment for it, be it community service or something like a student loan that puts them on a higher tax bracket for life. Its amusing that the same lenders who infated things and arguably caused the majority of the problem are also now responsible for hindering some potential growth by not lending and hence further crippling businesses and spending.
People will continue to be idiots in general and people will continue to try to exploit everything they can, the only way of stopping it is the system and the system is or has been inadequate. Is a thread a short time back where Ashante was talking about how if people screw up on their loans\mortgages etc they should have no sympathy for not having researched it first.
