As said before dont just strum the same chord repeatedly, go back and forth between chords getting faster and adding more chords. Thats how i started, then you can try power chords and then bar chords. then for your picking learn your scales. and just keep doing them.

Wonderwall by oasis (the reason i play guitar!)
Basket case by greenday (power chords)
Time of your life by greedday (switching between picking and chords)

Theres also a few courteeners songs that are pretty simple to play

The 1st song i leart to play was Cigarettes and Alcohol by oasis

Also you if you want you can "aquire" a copy of guitar pro. if you get a decent set of tabs you can mute the lead guitar and play along with the backing
