Laz's thread sort of made me think.

History is something I have been interested in all my life, I have particular fovourite periods, mostly classical, (romano-greco, egyptian) and medieval 10th -17th century but any type of history interests me, i have many text books on the subject and read them often for pleasure rather than study, and will always watch a documentary on any history.

Does anyone hear read or like to study academic type subjects for the sake of it or are you all strictly fun and escapism?

What makes you like/dislike a subject and why?
