Default The Devil's Backbone

El Espinazo Del Diablo- The Devil's Backbone.

I only got round to watching this and it's written and directed by none other than my favourite Guillermo Del Torro. You know... the Pan's Labyrinth, El Orfanato guy.

It's in Spanish so you either need to be able to habla Espanol or read subtitles, some people seem to find the latter more difficult somehow.

There's nobody famous in it, but this like most of his other films, revolves around some kind of fantasy/reality mishmash. Set in the Spanish Civil War, like Pan's Labyrinth, a kid is basically abandoned into the care of a lovely old Argentinian gentleman who takes care of war orphans. (No he's not a paedo!)
In the Orphanage (yes I know... El Orfanato) there seems to be a ghost kid haunting the place. Our main protagonist chappie has to overcome bullying etc before he can get to the bottom of this mystery.

It's very atmospheric, you can almost imagine being in this fortress in the middle of a Spanish desert, fascists running amok through Spain and fearing any day they are going to find the place. Not to mention the creepy unexploded bomb that is just stuck tip first in the courtyard.

Good stuff, I thoroughly enjoyed it and the subtitles do use swearwords, but other than that it's suitable for all who like a nice creepy film.

It's probably a 15 but I wouldn't think it would be too bad for about 13+.
